Style Guides

Style guides will be very helpful as you prepare your assignments. The Purdue OWL provides the following information in their Style Guide Overview page:

Style guides include citation formats for quotations, in-text citations, endnotes/footnotes, and bibliographies. They also include more than citation formats. They include rules and guidelines such as grammar and language usage to the formatting of the paper (font types, font sizes, margins, etc).

Find out which style guide (MLA, APA, etc.) your professor wants you to use and make sure you are well-versed in it.

Look at whole style guide and not just the one portion you need. You don’t just look at section for how to cite a book, for example.

Our Bibliographic Library Guide includes information and links to the the most-used style guides. *Note: The APA 7th Edition is available in physical format only.

Citation Management

There are a number of options to help you manage your citations. Citation management software can be very helpful. This software allows you to upload your citations and the software will help you with generating bibliographies.

TTUHSC Libraries offers free subscriptions to EndNote and RefWorks citation management software. Both options also have plugins that can create citations for you as you write.

Tutorials for EndNote and RefWorks are also available at the above links.
