Best Practice

Write N Cite and RefWorks Citation Manager do not function properly when objects from another source are inserted in the document. These objects are typically (though not always) inserted from Word itself. If you have track changes, images, tables, page numbers, URLs, etc. in your document, all of these things can be a factor in error messages being displayed. Best practice is:

  1. First - write the entire paper without any citations
  2. Next - insert the in-text citations, then the bibliography (when applicable)
  3. Last - add your design features (images, tables, etc.) only after all citations are completed

If you are already receiving an error message, try this troubleshooting first:

  1. Copy and paste the plain text only to a new blank document
  2. Re-cite your citations
  3. Re-add tables, images, etc.
