- EndNote Basic is the web-based version. It requires an internet connection, and the installation of the free Microsoft Word Cite While You Write (CWYW) plugin.
- EndNote Desktop allows you to work offline. It requires an EndNote Basic account (for the sync feature), and the installation of the EndNote Desktop software on your computer.
