Evidence-Based Nursing Practice Process

Step 1: Form a clinical question using the PICOT model

Step 2: Collect the strongest, most relevant evidence to answer the question

Step 3: Critically appraise and synthesize the evidence

Step 4: Integrate the evidence with clinician expertise and the patient values to guide the implementation of a practice decision or change

Step 5: Evaluate the practice change based on measurable outcomes

Step 6:  Disseminate information about the outcome of the practice change so that other clinicians are well-informed of the change and can potentially apply it to their practice
